Oberammergau


What would Oberammergau be without its Passion plays – and without its imposing, almost 5,000-seater Passion play theatre? - Although the next Passion play is not until 2010, visitors can experience the Passion play theatre now in a guided tour.

Castle Neuschwanstein


Seven weeks after the death of King Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein was opened to the public in 1886. The reclusive king had built the castle to get away from the public - now his refuge became a magnet for them.

Hohenschwangau Castle


From 1832 - 1836, Crown Prince Maximilian of Bavaria had the dilapidated castle of Schwanstein rebuilt in neo-Gothic style. King Ludwig II spent his youth here.
 
The large banqueting hall, also known as the hall of heroes and knights, takes up the whole width of the castle. The stucco ceiling was decorated with neo-Gothic ornaments on a pink background and three-dimensional silver stars. The columns are broken up by Gothic quatrefoils.

Linderhof Palace


Linderhof Palace was built between 1870 and 1879. It was constructed by Ludwig II on an estate belonging to his father King Max II, in a secluded valley at the foot of the Ammer mountains and is the only castle that the fairy tale king ever finished.

Wieskirche


PilgrimageChurch of the Scourged Saviour. Designed by Wessobrunn architect Dominikus Zimmermann and built between 1745 and 1753. The most important example of Bavarian rococo architecture; the Wieskirche was declared a world heritage site in Germany by UNESCO.
